Script Reading Service
"I will take every aspect of this [report] to re-write this project and will have you to thank if it becomes a success!" Steve Paden
Submit a script for the stage and receive feedback and practical advice
If you have a complete draft of a script, send us
- two copies of the script. These should be:
- typed
- single-sided
- double spaced
- bound - a treasury tag is sufficient
- separate details of your name, address, email and phone number. Please do not put your name anywhere on your actual script.
- a cheque for £15.00 made payable to 'North West Playwrights'
- please enclose a suitable SAE if you would like your scripts returning
On receipt of your scripts, we will send you an acknowledgment slip. This tells you when you can expect to receive your reports and gives the number allocated to your play.
We aim to return reports to writers within 10 weeks of receipt.
We do not accept scripts as attachments to emails.
Each play is read by two of our Readers.
NWP Readers undertake an honest appraisal of scripts and give constructive advice about how the writer might tackle the next draft. Our Readers are experienced theatre practitioners and academics.
"Thanks ever so much for the service. I don't know what I would have done without it." Peter Street.
The script reading process is anonymous - i.e. North West Playwrights does not identify the writer to the Readers, nor our Readers to the writer.
However, you can get an idea of the kind of people on our Readers panel here.
Outstanding plays submitted to the Script Reading Service may be selected for further development by NWP. This may include workshopping.
"I would like to express my sincere thanks for the time you and your actors spent with me discussing my play, My Friend William. It was, of course, very useful and, for a novice in this area, I was very pleased with how comfortable you made me feel." David Platt.
This service is available to writers aged 18+ who live within the Arts Council England, North West region. If you live elsewhere, check out these links.
